Project Evie

EVIE’S STORY

Evie saw CircusMASH at the University Community Day, had a go on a trapeze and was desperate to join! She had been going to CircusMASH for about 9 months before Birmingham Children’s Hospital diagnosed her with a rare metabolic bone disease called Hypophosphatasia (HPP). This condition means that her liver is unable to process calcium properly and therefore her bones are softer than most people’s and more prone to break. There are many other symptoms of the condition that also need managing. She is under the care of world experts in this disease and is supported by a team of specialist Doctors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists and Orthotists at the hospital who have helped manage the symptoms of her condition.

There was no way that Evie would let this stop her carrying on with CircusMASH and with CircusMASH’s support and encouragement she became even more determined to get better and better and prove that the HPP wasn’t going to stand in her way. And so when Evie decided she wanted to raise money for the HPP team at BCH, it had to be a circus event!

CIRCUSMASH’S INVOLVMENT

Jess, Evie’s mum told us about how Evie wanted to raise money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and instantly we knew we had to help Evie out. Evie is a fantastic student who does not let HPP hold her back in any way. She dangles and flies through the air and is a pleasure to work with. As always every December CircusMASH create a huge community show and this year’s show is called The Cabaret of Bizarre. The show will take place on 14th, 15th & 16th December 2018.

This year we will be donating £1 from every adult ticket and 50p from every youth ticket sold for our winter show The Cabaret of Bizarre. Evie will take a trip with her class mates to Cirque Du Soleil (Thank you CDS for your donation for Project Evie) to inspire them to create an act around Evie for this years show Tickets and information can be purchased here. A cheque will be presented by Evie (probably dangling from something- she is currently deciding on how she wants to present it) on Saturday 15th December after the evenings performance of ‘The Cabaret of Bizarre’.

EVIE SAYS

I found it hard to understand as I was only 7 at the time but CircusMASH supported me through the way. I wanted to raise money for this brilliant hospital because they gave me the care I needed and still do. I am lucky to live near enough to receive this care when I need it and get this amount of support. I am very grateful to CircusMASH for helping me raise money for the BCH 🙂

EVIE’S PARENTS SAY…

It was very lucky that Evie found CircusMASH when she did. At a time when we were all uncertain about what was happening with her body, she was given the confidence to not only trust it but also demonstrate that she could face her fears and do quite remarkable things that seemed to defy her bone disease. I cannot over-emphasis how important the faith and commitment that the team at CircusMASH showed Evie was, to her and to us as her parents.

A Special Thanks to…
